The other day, I was hanging around Feralas, taking down packs of wolves, and chatting on guild chat when I noticed that YinYangGirl was attempting to put a group together to run Dead Mines. I knew that I was double the level that should be doing the instance, but since I had only ever done the Blackfathom Deeps instance in the past, I figured I would give it a go.
So, first I had to sell off my acquired stuff from grinding. Then I had to repair my items. Next was to load up on arrows. Then came the flight to Darnassus. This is quite the flight from Feralas. The next time I do it, I will clock the trip to see how long it its, but lets just say it was long enough to use the restroom, run upstairs, grab a sandwich, fix it up a bit, come back downstairs and eat half of it before landing.
Once I landed, I had a few things to take care of. I had to bank items and check in on some things really quick and then I was back out, heading to ratchet. Once I arrived in Ratchet, another substantial trip, it was quickly on a boat to Booty Bay. Once there, I mounted and rode north to the instance. I met up with YinYangGirl, who showed me where the nearest Flight Point was, which I added before heading into the instance itself, then it was time to take it down.
This is the third lowest instance, built for characters between levels 17 and 20. There was YYG, who was in the low to mid 40’s, I at low 40’s, and then we brought 2 level 20+ along with us for the ride. YYG was trying to get a specific drop for one of her alts, I was doing it just to see it, and the other two were doing it fairly legitimately.
We came in and started quickly taking down the miners who lined the tunnels throughout most of the instance. However, despite the firepower we brought for such a small instance, the lowest level guy kept running off and getting killed. We had to wait a few times, but after a while, he started getting the hang of things and not dying as much.
So, we worked our way through the early bosses as YYG would run around aggro’ing the mobs and I would pick them off while the others worked on the odd guy here and there. We worked our way throughout the caves and eventually ended up in the foundry. YYG was running all over the place here to group everyone together on her, but the lower level guy found ways to die another couple of times.
After a short while, though, we had cleaned the place out and made our way out to Ironclad Cove. After running the mobs around the ship, we made our way up to Mr. Smite, which we took care of in short order.
After boarding the ship, we took down some more small groups as we made our way around. We then came upon Cookie, the lvl 20 Elite murloc cook on the ship. We made quick work of him as well and ran on to the final boss.
We took out Captain Greenskin, the lvl 20 goblin Elite captain of the ship before making our way to the final boss, Edwin VanCleef. VanCleef is a lvl 20 human elite who is the leader of the Defias Brotherhood. We took him out and then exited the instance.
This was only my second different instance that I have run to date. So, it was really fun to do something different. It was also fun to play with YYG. So, after the two lower level guys took off, YYG and I decided to team up and ride around together for a while.
She led me around most of southern and central Eastern Kingdoms as I acquired many flight paths and found a number of Elders with which came Ancestral Coins. We travelled around for quite a while grabbing up these coins together, but eventually went our separate ways in search of those that we wanted the most. However, we stayed in the same party the whole time so we could keep each other updated as to our gathering status.
When we began, I already had 14 coins that I had gathered from Kalimdor and with her help; I was able to get 11 more in Eastern Kingdom before I logged off to give me 25 and reach an achievement.
This took many suicide and kamikaze runs. There were a number of the areas that I went into that I had no business being in. However, at the end of the night, a Dead Mines run and 11 Ancestral Coins was quite the positive evening.
