Less is more Sarth, Maly, and Emalon on 10 man in one night

Last night started off slow, but really came on. We started with a Less is More run on 10 man Sarth in OS as we waited for people to get on. We had one wipe during a trash pull that went tragically wrong, however, we made quick work on Sarth and all dragons, taking them the first time.

We then moved on the Malygos. We added a couple of people and jumped in after a brief explanation. We moved through phases 1 and 2 without any real problems, but couldn't seem to get our flow on phase three. As we continued, we solidified our strategy on the first two phases and on most runs had them running very smoothly (that would be except the time Maly started getting impatient with us, turned his head and blew on the group, followed by him starting to take off...stopping... blowing on the group [killing pretty much everyone] and then continuing with his ascent.

After about 8 attempts, though, we finally began to work through some of our problems on the third phase. We had actually gotten him below 1 million HP the second or third time through. Finally, we had most of the members make it through the first couple of electrical clouds which is just the extra boost we needed to finally drop the gloating bastard... Slash G Kwit FTW!!!

After this, a few changes were made to the lineup due to people being saved and we were off to VoA. It ended up taking us longer to regroup and get ready than to take down the actual bosses, and we didn't do too much waiting. This was due to the fact that we did the smoothest 10 man Emalon that I have seen, blowign through him while getting down the overcharged adds half way before they would go off. After this, Arch might as well have run away as we smacked him down with the quickness.

All in all, it was a very rewarding night. Many people picked up their Less is More achievement from OS. A large portion of the group also got their first Maly kill and therefore their Champion of the Frozen Wastes title.

I'm still looking forward to smacking Maly a few more times before we are done with him. :)

Laseryl Giant's Bane, pic 2

Laseryl Giant's Bane

In a great turn of events, after defeating Kologarn on 25 man, I rolled a 90 to recieve a huge ranged weapon upgrade.... Giant's Bane.

First Heroic Kologarn Kill

Joint 25 man raid with Reavers brings down Flame Leviathan first time, XT on second attempt and Kologarn on 4th attempt. It was a really good group and if we can get back together on Sunday, I would not be surprised if we got down another 4 bosses, at least.

Kologarn was a crazy fight. I died the first two times on grip and third time on eye beams... but the forth time I stayed up (like the castle in Monty Python and the Holy Grail that kept sinking into the swamp, lol).

Wailing Caverns

So, my last catch-up post is from my trip to the Wailing Caverns. I again answered the call from a guild member who was looking for someone to run through the instance with him. He was a 20 +, but had done the instance before.

So, we met in Ratchet and I rode over, while he ran. We made it without incident and made our way inside. I would follow him until we found mobs at which point I would take the lead and clear the area. He only died once in the very beginning while I was looting a body, but after this we were fine.

We ran through the instance fairly quickly, but it wasn’t a straight run through to the bosses. Regardless, he pretty much knew where he was going and I was able to blast through the bosses pretty quickly. With this being the same lvl 17-20 type instance as Deadmines, we did it just as quick with the two of us since we were both on the same page.

After beating all of the 7 sub-bosses, we made our way back to the Disciple of Naralex who we guarded on his way to the summoning post. After fighting off a couple of ways of mobs, we finally got the final boss.

So, this giant Murloc comes cruising out of the water and you have to put the beat down on him to finish the quest. Together, we were able to take down this guy without much problem, but it was great to see this insanely big murloc come cruising out of the water for you.

After you beat him, the Disciple and Naralex turn into owls and fly away. At this point, we made our way out of the instance and then out of the cave where we thanked each other and parted ways. All that was left for me was a long flight back to Feralas before logging off for the night.

Stranglethorn Vale, Booty Bay, and 42

It was quite the week for me to join up with others to do things. After the Dead Mines run with YYG, I ended up answering the call by one of the members of my guild to go with them to Stranglethorn Vale and do a bit of questing. So, I began the insanely long flight from Feralas to Ratchet. This ride kills me, but is a great time to use the restroom, eat dinner, watch and entire movie, whatever comes to you at the time. So, after landing in Ratchet, I took the boat over to Ratchet. Ratchet is a docks area on the southern tip of STV where there are a ton of quests. So, I ran around for a minute or two and maxed my quests before heading out to STV to meet up with my fellow guildie.

So, after meeting up, he shared some quests with me after I had Abandoned some of my lower level ones requiring me to go to new places for little exp. We started off taking down some apes and getting gizzards. This went quickly, but after this, we went on a fun one. We completed the quests for “Sea Wolf” MacKinley by battling the Naga and their minions in the Ruins of Aboraz and Jubuwal. We finished up by doing the Bloodsail Buccaneers up to step 4 and Up to Snuff.

After this, the other guy had to go. I finished up with Up to Snuff before heading back to Ratchet. I completed the quests and found out that I was less than 100 exp short of leveling up to 42. So, I hearthstoned back to Ferealas and found 1 wolf to jump levels before logging off. Listed below is approximately the path we took for the night.

I’ve Found Serenitye

So, back when I created my first character back in July, I also created an alt. I don’t know why I did this as I hadn’t even played a decent chunk of the game when I had done so. However, I guess I wanted to see what a female character would look like, and this is what led to the creation of Serenitye, the Human Warlock.

So, I never once played the character, just created her. So, on a slow day this week, I decided to take her out of the wrapper and try her out.
I had only been in the Eastern Kingdoms a couple of times and even then not for long. So, the short time that I spent was a bit of a breath of fresh air. I ran around, killing things for a bit of exp and copper as I played around with the couple of little things that a warlock can do from the start.

In the end, I only made it to level 4 with her before logging off, but I could see jumping on for a level or two here and there throughout. It will be interesting to see how they work. I am also interested in seeing how tanks and healers work in the game, so at one point I’m sure I will make alts in those directions as well.

1st Dead Mines run and The Search for the Coins of Ancestry Begin

The other day, I was hanging around Feralas, taking down packs of wolves, and chatting on guild chat when I noticed that YinYangGirl was attempting to put a group together to run Dead Mines. I knew that I was double the level that should be doing the instance, but since I had only ever done the Blackfathom Deeps instance in the past, I figured I would give it a go.

So, first I had to sell off my acquired stuff from grinding. Then I had to repair my items. Next was to load up on arrows. Then came the flight to Darnassus. This is quite the flight from Feralas. The next time I do it, I will clock the trip to see how long it its, but lets just say it was long enough to use the restroom, run upstairs, grab a sandwich, fix it up a bit, come back downstairs and eat half of it before landing.

Once I landed, I had a few things to take care of. I had to bank items and check in on some things really quick and then I was back out, heading to ratchet. Once I arrived in Ratchet, another substantial trip, it was quickly on a boat to Booty Bay. Once there, I mounted and rode north to the instance. I met up with YinYangGirl, who showed me where the nearest Flight Point was, which I added before heading into the instance itself, then it was time to take it down.

This is the third lowest instance, built for characters between levels 17 and 20. There was YYG, who was in the low to mid 40’s, I at low 40’s, and then we brought 2 level 20+ along with us for the ride. YYG was trying to get a specific drop for one of her alts, I was doing it just to see it, and the other two were doing it fairly legitimately.

We came in and started quickly taking down the miners who lined the tunnels throughout most of the instance. However, despite the firepower we brought for such a small instance, the lowest level guy kept running off and getting killed. We had to wait a few times, but after a while, he started getting the hang of things and not dying as much.

So, we worked our way through the early bosses as YYG would run around aggro’ing the mobs and I would pick them off while the others worked on the odd guy here and there. We worked our way throughout the caves and eventually ended up in the foundry. YYG was running all over the place here to group everyone together on her, but the lower level guy found ways to die another couple of times.

After a short while, though, we had cleaned the place out and made our way out to Ironclad Cove. After running the mobs around the ship, we made our way up to Mr. Smite, which we took care of in short order.

After boarding the ship, we took down some more small groups as we made our way around. We then came upon Cookie, the lvl 20 Elite murloc cook on the ship. We made quick work of him as well and ran on to the final boss.

We took out Captain Greenskin, the lvl 20 goblin Elite captain of the ship before making our way to the final boss, Edwin VanCleef. VanCleef is a lvl 20 human elite who is the leader of the Defias Brotherhood. We took him out and then exited the instance.

This was only my second different instance that I have run to date. So, it was really fun to do something different. It was also fun to play with YYG. So, after the two lower level guys took off, YYG and I decided to team up and ride around together for a while.

She led me around most of southern and central Eastern Kingdoms as I acquired many flight paths and found a number of Elders with which came Ancestral Coins. We travelled around for quite a while grabbing up these coins together, but eventually went our separate ways in search of those that we wanted the most. However, we stayed in the same party the whole time so we could keep each other updated as to our gathering status.

When we began, I already had 14 coins that I had gathered from Kalimdor and with her help; I was able to get 11 more in Eastern Kingdom before I logged off to give me 25 and reach an achievement.

This took many suicide and kamikaze runs. There were a number of the areas that I went into that I had no business being in. However, at the end of the night, a Dead Mines run and 11 Ancestral Coins was quite the positive evening.

Level 41, then lots of death

So, last night I started playing with only about 1/4th of the experience left in order to level up from 40 to 41. This has probably been my longest time gap for leveling so far due to running around doing Lunar Festival stuff for the last few days.

So, I get rested XP through most of the remaining level and after about 15 minutes I am up to 41. I was in Feralas grinding and skinning, so I kept going for another 15 minutes or so in order to build up some goods and level up Gwen.

So, after Gwen was good and leveled and I had acquired enough leather to satisfy me for the time being, it was off to Far Post in Ashenvale in my quest to complete gathering all of the Coins of Ancestry that I could.

So, I had already collected the Elders of the Alliance 3 coin set and had about half of all other coins, but none of the Elders of the Horde. My plan was to fly to Far Post, then ride over the Azshara for the first coin of the night, and then pick up the two in Winterspring. Next, I would fly down to Ratchet and then mosey over to Orgrimmar for my first Elder Horde coin. Then I would make a beeline to Thunder Bluff for my second. I would finish out the night be heading south and picking up the coins in Un’Goro, Tanaris, and Sililthus.

I knew that this might be a bit of a lofty goal for a few hours of play, but I set my sights and took off. I flew to Far Post and then took off east only to realize that I was heading into the wrong zone. I turned around, got my bearings and got on the path to Azshara. I quickly found the flight point at the beginning of the area and even got a new bow, but alas, this was the last that things would go right for quite a while.

I rode into the heart of Azshara with the wide-eyed wonder of exploring a new area. However, before long I saw that the road completely ended and there were Naga creatures everywhere. So, I tried to figure out the right course to take and rode like the wind through the middle of the ruins. I made it a decent way in, but eventually ran into a dead end. So, after resting for a bit, I remounted and decided to make a run for the coast, hoping that the monsters would be thinner there. Boy was I wrong!

I died about five times between my charge to the beach and actually making it to “graveyard” for the area. I even tried to swim out into the water, only to find that giants patrolled it. There were also murlocs, crab things, and hydras in the water to make me rethink my plan.

So, I finally made it to the graveyard and found a murloc and a hydra just in the water, making me keep to the coast. Luckily, at this point I could follow the coast without having to worry about too many mobs. I skirted all around the mid to south eastern coast of Azshara hoping to find a way up the steep cliffs that begin in the water, up to the Elder I was looking for. After running through some breaks in the cliffs and dieing a few times from murlocs and such, I made it around the bend. However, much to my dismay there was still no way up. So, I had already spent allot of time in this area and knew that I would have to back track most of the way. So, I went back around the coast and made it back to the graveyard without dieing, which was a feat in itself. Next, I found a path up to the mainland without having to mess with the Nagas again and made my way towards the cliffs where the Elder was.

I ran around the Ogres and got blown off by the dragon spirit, which by the way was one of the coolest things I have seen so far in the game. I then died from some sort of bird spitting fireballs at me, but eventually found the bridges to connect the three mountains. I made it over the second bridge and was finally in the area where the elder was. However, I quickly died again. It took a couple of minutes to get my spirit back to my body and by this time, a higher-level character had come through and wiped the mobs.

So, with an idea of where he was, I took off running. I found out after only a few steps that the Elder was just in front of me and barely out of sight. So, I quickly ran to him, got my coin, and immediately hearthstoned back to Feralas.

This journey took probably around 2 hours total for one coin. So, completely disgusted, I logged off for the night. Here is the comepletely time consuming path I took that night.

Slaying the Pridewing Wyvern's

In order to assist the Alliance, Laseryl was forced to slaughter the magestic Pridewing Wyverns near Mirkfallon Lake in the Stonetalon Mountains. The beasts were no match for his bow, but their tenadicty amazed him as their numbers never seemed to thin. He was also taken aback by the grace of their gliding.

However, these beasts were tained, Laseryl remembered, coming out of his reverie. The next arrow found the beast's left eye and the creature saw no more of the world.

Cool View from Stonetalon Mountains

In a land where he was not wanted, where he would be killed without a moment's hesitation, Laseryl finds a steep bluff on which to take a moment's respite and enjoy nature's gift.

WoW, I'm Off and Running

So, after years of contemplation; years of wondering whether or not it was a good idea to start playing an MMORPG, even though I was told by many people I know that I would probably enjoy it, I finally took the leap and joined the World of Warcraft.

So, in July, I finally decided it was time to take the leap and play the game. I started off by makeing a run after work to Best Buy to pick up the World of Warcraft warchest.

I brought it home, installed, setup an account, downloaded the patches, and started playing. It was a three day weekend, and I took advantage. I started my Night Elf Hunter Flystalls and began to level him up over the weekend. I continued to play a bit during the next week, but after a little ribbing by my family, I decided to take a break for a couple of days. These couple of days turned into a month and before I knew it, WoW wasn't even a thought any more. I had only managed to level my character up to level 21 and seen so little in the game.

So, during the New Years holiday, I had a four day break. During the first day, I lazed around the house and watched a couple of movies and TV shows, but was beginning to get a little bored already after having four days off the previous week for Christmas. So, on day two, I was sitting at home and decided to check in on my favorite webshow, The Guild.

I watched the available episodes of season 2 and really enjoyed it, just like season 1. One thing that it did as well, was to spark my desire to try out WoW again. So, I pulled out the discs, installed it on my new laptop, got an additional 3 months of play and began downloading the patches. This took somewhere around 5-6 hours. I had completely given up on getting to play that night. I went outside, smoked, and when I came back in, they were finally done. I figured I would play a couple of hours and then go to bed. However, five hours later, I finally signed off, knowing that I was hooked. Not in a bad way though, I had found something that I would enjoy over the holiday.

So, I continued to play over the weekend and continued through the next week. I have now been playing for 15 days. I have only not played at all on three or four of those days. I am currently up to level 31 with my new Night Elf Hunter Laseryl. More on him to come.
